IMPORTANT INFORMATION BEFORE APPLICATION

  1. Payment for the visa is not refunded in case of rejection of the application.
  2. Obtaining a visa is not a guarantee that the foreigner is allowed to enter the Republic of Albania.
  3. Visa applications must be completed online and are submitted at the applicant's own risk.
  4. During the visa application verification process, it is strictly forbidden for the applicant, the invitee, or any other subject to communicate with the responsible institutions, except when contacted by the relevant Diplomatic or Consular Mission.
  5. The evaluation process after payment is normally completed within the applicable processing period.
  6. In case of non-payment of the visa fee after the required period, the application will change to the appropriate status and may be automatically rejected.
  7. Applicants with dual citizenship must select the nationality of the passport they will use for travel.
  8. All documents uploaded must be translated where required and must comply with the specified document format.

CAN ENTER ALBANIA WITHOUT A VISA:

  1. Foreign citizens who have a valid, multiple-entry Schengen visa, which has been previously used in one of the Schengen states, or foreign citizens who have a valid permit of stay in one of the Schengen states. The citizens are obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Albania no later than 3 (three) days from the date of expiry of the validity of the above-mentioned documents.
  2. Foreign citizens who have a valid, multiple-entry visa or a valid residence permit, issued by the countries of the European Union, the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, including the electronic format, which has been previously used in the respective country of issuance. The citizens are obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Albania no later than 3 (three) days from the date of expiry of the validity of the above-mentioned documents.
  3. Foreign citizens who enter and stay without visa in the Schengen area.
  4. Foreign citizens who have a 10-year residence permit, issued by the competent authority of the United Arab Emirates, valid not less than one year from the moment of entry.
  5. Citizens from Saudi Arabia and Qatar can enter without a visa, only for tourism purpose for the period 15 April 2026 until 31 December 2026 with the document passport.
  6. Holders of documents for travel by EU member states as follows:
    • Alien's travel document.
    • Travel document (Refugees, Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951).
    • Travel document (Stateless persons, NY Convention of 28 September 1954).
    • Travel document for person enjoying subsidiary protection.

Visa regime for foreign citizens

The visa regime for foreign citizens in the Republic of Albania is provided by Law No. 79/2021 “On foreigners” and by the Decision of the Council of Ministers No. 858, dated 29.12.2021, “On the definition of the criteria of procedures and documentation for entry, stay and treatment of foreigners in the Republic of Albania”.

Electronic Visa

Electronic Visa

It is an authorization printed in electronic form, generated with an electronic stamp and sent to the applicant by email, without the need to physically appear at the Diplomatic / Consular Representations of the Republic of Albania.

Stamped Visa

Stamped Visa

It is the authorization in the form of a stamp visa. In case of visa approval, the applicant physically presents for the withdrawal of the visa at the Diplomatic / Consular Representations of the Republic of Albania.

Visa Type “A”

Airport transit visa

It is issued in the form of a stamp visa or printed in electronic format, which gives to the holder the right to enter and stay in the international area of an airport circulation until necessary for the next flight to the country of destination.

The validity of this visa corresponds to the time period and flight ticket reservation the visa applicant foresees for the transiting.

Type “A” visa may be issued with one, two or multiple entry.

Visa Type “C”

Short stay visa

It is issued in the form of a stamp visa or printed in electronic format, which entitles its holder to enter and stay in the Republic of Albania for up to 90 days within 180 days, starting from the date of first entry.

Type “C” visa can be issued with one, two or more entries.

Visa Type “D”

Long stay visa

It is issued in the form of a stamp visa or printed in electronic form for foreign citizens who intend to stay in the Republic of Albania for more than 90 days within 180 days and, when, to obtain a residence permit, these citizens are required to have a visa.

Visa Type “Visa At The Border”

For crews of navigation vehicles

Issued in the form of a visa printed in electronic format, which is applied only for the crews of Albanian or foreign navigation vehicles, which request permission to embark or re-embark, to return to their country after the end of the work contract, as well as in cases of crew change.

The visa at the border is issued for foreigners who embark or re-embark, with 1 (one) entry and with a stay duration of 1 (one) to 5 (five) days.

Application phases

First phase

Visa application process is only accepted if it is completed online, and you must ensure that you are outside of the territory of the Republic of Albania after payment of the visa fee.

The application is pre-verified by the consul including the application form and uploaded documents and if the application:

  1. is correct, a notification is sent that the application has been accepted and a visa fee is requested, according to the cost and type of visa requested;
  2. has irregularities, it is turned back to the applicant requesting the correct documents to be uploaded according to the instructions sent;
  3. does not fulfil any of the criteria necessary for the required visa, the application is rejected according to the legal framework.

Second phase

Visa fees for foreign citizens according to Council of Ministers No. 329, dated 29.05.2024 for the desired type of visa can be found HERE: here

Visa fees for minors aged 6-12 are half the visa fees for adults.

The visa fee does not apply to:

  1. children under the age of 6.
  2. holders of diplomatic and service passports in compliance with and in application of the principle of reciprocity.
  3. humanitarian cases.
  4. cases where there is a reciprocity agreement at the government level.

After the applicant pays the visa fee, the following steps are undertaken:

  1. The applicant is notified via email that the application is in the “evaluation process” stage.
  2. The applicant is notified via the e-Visa system in their email of the decision of the responsible state authorities. The assessment process as a rule takes up to 15 working days and in exceptional cases it can take up to 30 working days.
  3. If the visa is approved, the electronic visa is generated by the e-Visa system and sent by email to the applicant.
  4. If the visa is rejected/canceled: the applicant is informed via their email with the legal arguments for the visa rejection/annulment.

Additional notes.

  1. If you wish to travel to the Republic of Albania and are required to apply for a visa, the application must be made within 90 days of the intended date of travel. The application will be refused if your intended date of travel is longer than 90 days from the date of your visa application.
  2. Referring to point 5 of article 28, based on Law No. 79/2021 "For foreigners": The payment for the visa sticker or electronic visa is not refunded / reimbursed in cases of rejection of the application.
  3. The documentation from the country of origin and/or from the country where the foreigner had a legal stay must be translated into the Albanian or English language, certified and legalized based on the obligations arising from international agreements.
  4. Obtaining a visa is not a guarantee that the foreigner is allowed to enter the Republic of Albania.
  5. Visa application process is only accepted if it is completed online, and ensuring that the applicant is outside the territory of the Republic of Albania after payment of the visa fee.
  6. The host is an Albanian citizen or a foreign citizen, resident in the Republic of Albania, or legal person who exercises activities under Albanian legislation, who declares in writing that he assumes responsibilities for staying and leaving the foreigner in/from the Republic of Albania, according to the legal provisions in force.   7. During the visa application verification process, it is strictly forbidden for the applicant, the invitee, or any other subject to communicate with the responsible institutions, except when contacted by them.
  8. The deadline for evaluating applications usually takes 15 working days from the day when the payment for the visa is made. For exceptional cases, the verification process can take up to 30 working days.
  9. In case of non-payment of the visa fee within 15 days, the application will change to "Not paid" status and will be automatically rejected.
  10. The visa application for children under 18 years old is made by one of the parents, legal guardian or the person that is the legal carer.
  11. After the rejection of the visa sticker or electronic visa application. The foreign citizen has the right to reapply only after all appeal procedures have been exhausted, or after three months have passed from the date of receipt of rejection.

    * Within 5 working days from the receipt of the decision, the interested foreigner has the right to appeal against the decision of refusal / annulment of the visa with the relevant arguments and evidence, as provided for in Law 79/2021 "On Foreigners", only at the following email address:

  12. Applicants with dual citizenship must select the nationality of the passport they will use for travel. If the country in the travel document registered with e-Visa is different from the document the person has during the trip, the e-Visa will be invalid. By travel document we define passport and identity card (for residents of specific countries). Other documents are not acceptable for an e-Visa application.
